Assessment

Individual Student Assessment
Individual student assessments are often conducted in order to determine an individual’s current skill set.  Assessments typically include conducting any number of standardized assessments deemed appropriate including:  Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS),  and Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Second Edition.  Additionally, direct observation, record review and parent/teacher interview are frequently a part of the assessment process in order to determine what the individual’s educational plan should include.

Functional Behavior Assessments
Problem behaviors demonstrated within the home, school and community setting often interfere with skill acquisition and demonstration of other socially significant behaviors.  In order to appropriately address problem behaviors, the function of the problem behavior needs to be identified.  This is completed through conducting a functional behavior assessment (FBA) which utilizes various assessment tools including direct observation, data collection, and parent/teacher interview.  Once the function of problem behaviors has been identified, a detailed, research-based behavior plan can be developed to decrease problem behaviors and increase appropriate behaviors.  RCS is able to provide support throughout the FBA process including:  summarizing the results of the report in written format, attending a meeting to present results of the report, developing function-based behavior plans, training parents/staff on the implementation of these plans and providing follow-up consultation and recommendations.

Independent Educational Evaluations
RCS offers Independent Educational Evaluations which involve extensive home and school observation, record review and interviews with parents and educators, in order to provide detailed recommendations regarding an individual’s educational plan.  Recommendations will be provided as to appropriate classroom placement, target objectives, service delivery, environmental set-up, expertise of the educational team, staff training, data collection and recording, appropriate prompting/teaching procedures, reinforcement systems and assessment of problem behaviors and development of a behavior plan.  Independent Educational Evaluations are conducted by one of our highly skilled Board Certified Behavior Analysts.  Overall impressions and recommendations will be detailed and presented by the BCBA.
